GCGS 2019 Annual Conference & Newly Elected Officers

Georgia State University hosted the sixth annual conference of the Georgia Council of  Graduate Schools May 16-17 at the Atlanta campus.

Representatives from colleges and universities across the state gathered to focus on topics to help faculty and staff engage graduate students, and further the underlying conversation about graduate studies.

The conference’s theme was “Holistic Approaches to Graduate Student Support and Success,” and sessions focused on integrative health collaboration to support graduate students, marketing graduate programs, campus partnerships, partnerships for professional development in graduate education, graduate financial education, and more.

The program also included the second GCGS Three Minute Thesis (3MT) showcase, with recent winners from the master’s and doctoral levels around the state, as well as a Georgia State student jazz group performance.

Dr. Lisa Armistead, Associate Provost for Graduate Programs, served as the GCGS president during the 2018-2019 academic year. Current President Elect/Vice President Dr. Suzanna E. Barbour, Dean of the University of Georgia Graduate School, assumed the 2019-2020 presidency at the conclusion of the conference.

During the business meeting, two officers were elected:

Elected to the President Elect/Vice President position is David Baugher, Senior Assistant Dean, The Graduate College, Kennesaw State University

Re-elected to the Secretary position, Nikki C. Palamiotis, M.P.H. Assistant Dean for Graduate Students, The Graduate College, Kennesaw State University
