Keynote

We are honored to feature keynote speaker Dr. Javier Gonzalez, a Valdosta State University doctoral alumnus whose story powerfully reflects the mission and impact of graduate education in our state. As a first-generation college graduate from a rural South Georgia immigrant farmworking background, Dr. Gonzalez will share his journey through graduate school and beyond.
In his session, he will discuss:
- The lived experiences and unique needs of students from migrant and rural backgrounds
- Why these student populations are present across Georgia and deserve intentional support
- How his doctoral committee at VSU supported his persistence and timely completion
- The ways his doctorate has shaped hisleadership as Chief Executive Officer of the East Coast Migrant Head Start Program
His story is not only inspiring—it is a call to action for institutions committed to understanding and supporting the diverse backgrounds and experiences of their graduate students to promote success for all.
